A Centuries-old Church, Love and The Volcano

There is a certain magic when you hold a wedding at an old church...it seems that the occasion is historical in the sense that we only get married once in our lives and we beseech the spirits of old to bestow upon us their blessings.

Actually, I have always loved shooting weddings at these kinds of venues...this was taken at the Daraga Parish Curch in Albay Province, Philippines.

This Client was a surprise one. I was just supposed to go to the wedding as a guest, since it was my friend who was tying the knot at that day but ended up being The Wedding Photographer. Works for me.

I used a 50mm 1.8 NIKKOR Lens and the 18-105mm Kit that came with my Nikon D90 for my weddings.
With this set, I used ambient light due to the fact that her hotel room had big windows which makes it just right to capture the moments and the details during the wedding prep.

It's nice to have a young couple as clients because they are open to anything...from wardrobe to locations to what pose they're supposed to do.

This session was shot early morning, just as the sun rose from the horizon on the hills of Camalig, Albay.

HELLO there followers...been quite busy with the world so I kinda forgot this site for eons...my bad! I hope I can make up for lost time...and I hope you are still there to support my kind of style - madman style!

I did mention that this will be turned into a PHOTOGRAPHY BLOG sometime ago...sharing with you tips on how I shoot my images and some workflow tips on how to get the most out of the camera you have with you, which doesn't necessarily mean a DSLR...ahahaha!

I do not consider myself a PRO with regards to PHOTOGRAPHY per se...I am a work in progress...my experience with VIDEOGRAPHY taught me all what it is there to know on how to get great shots in STILL...and my background in ARCHITECTURE helps a lot in taking awesome images. That's why in the process, I organized a workshop series to share what I know to people who also wants to learn the proper way of creating beautiful images; people who are not able to afford high-priced workshops and don't even own a DSLR.

It's good to be back...I missed writing and very few people of NOW know that this is part of me ever since high school...and there has been a lot of goings on that I need to share with you guys.

I have been a fan of monochrome since I was a kid...the old wedding photographs of my mom & dad...their old school pictures printed in that old-style photo paper that's as tough as cardboard boxes...the emotion you get from just looking at these images sans their color, its priceless!

That's why, when I got into wedding photography professionally, it has been a signature to have portraits in this genre.

its been quite a while since i visited this blog...i would've considered this as a goner by now(check my last entry)!hahahaha!
anyway, the last days of school is dwindling in the horizon just about ready for the holiday vacay...but that would mean NO WORK, NO PAY!??!...darn it!hahahaha!(notice the rhyme?) but yes, i am pissed because of that...why you ask?...hmmmm...well, first and foremost, it's becauseof the reason that i am not getting any 13th month pay because i am a part-time employee and according to BU's rulebook, we don't get none! here's my inquisitive pondering question: aren't I an employee?don't I teach at the same institution? with enthusiasatic exuberance, i decided to investigate on the said anomaly and found out that this has been going on for years now...that part-timers are not considered casual or contractual employees(then what are we?)...that we would not be entitled to any government benefits, not to mention that 10thousand peso christmas bonus to be given away by the national government to all employees working in government institutions. but alas, it breaks my heart to say that we PART-TIMERS are not considered as government employees, dosn't that suck to high heaven?hahahaha!

its what's been plaguing this nation for centuries...it is the one reason why Filipinos risk of being DRUG MULES to earn extra money...it is the reason why Filipinos become slaves in another land because the government cannot provide a decent way to earn a living for its constituents...it is the same reason why Filipinos migrate to the U.S./ AUSTRALIA/ NEW ZEALAND  because the way of living here has deteriorated and has gone to the dumps!

i have high hopes for the people of this country because i grew up seeing 6presidents turn this country from best to worst...i grew up in the Marcos regime where the peso was higher than the dollar, where the cost of living was manageable, where everything you see around you is owned by a Filipino...

sometimes, I wonder what it would be like if they hadn't toppled down Marcos sans his cronies...what it would be for us if we still have the advantage over the dollar...what it would be like if people in government stopped bickering like teenage girls and run the country like they are supposed to...what it would be like if there were less corrupt officials and more benefits for the people of the Philippines.

these are only my ideas...my sentiments...my heartaches...if only it would all come true.

everybody loves barbecue...young and old...they would never pass up the chance of consumating a good melee of pork chunks marinated with secret spices and grilled over hot charcoals to a cancer-induced high...yeah, everybody loves barbecue!
in the philippines, everything that is put on a grill and roasted is called a "barbecue"...knowing the nature of filipinos in being inventive and adventurous in gastronomic delights...just look around, and in every nook and cranny of the city you may find a pit or two all fired up your favorite carcinogen filled kebab!

the list goes on, if you ask me...the ones called as IUD or "isaw" in manila or "tinae" in cebu or "tripilla" in bikol are the more popular ones in the food stalls serving this variety because its affordable and tasty according to connoisseurs. there's also the barbecued blood...barbecued hard-boiled egg which i found in cebu...being the adventurous type, i savored the moment tasting the street food available in these areas.

"street food" is what they usually call these type of mouth-watering morsels...cheap, economical, and ready to eat!

according to studies, these char-broiled goodies are laced with carcinogens that may induce cancer if taken at a certain amount. these may also be source of hepatitis-b if food preparation is done unreligiously and without care...so, everybody should be wary onto where they would buy their favorite barbecue. try to look for a "suki" of some sort...a manang whom you believe is concerned about the health of her customers and not just the cash register getting all filled-up.

no matter how enticing it may look and no matter how affordable it may be, try your best to be looking out for yourself...be concerned of where you purchase your barbecue...just limit your intake and try to count the calories...more importantly, try to indulge on keeping a healthy balanced diet...vegetables and fruits wouldn't do any harm once in a while...but after writing this blog today, i might be visiting my favorite bbq site and order me a scrumptious variety of chicken, hotdog and pork barbecue for dinner and down it with an ice-cold liter of iced tea brimming with chunks of ice...yummmmmy!
